Bilateral stimulation
Bilateral stimulation, gently moving your attention from left to right, is one of the core parts of EMDR therapy. This free tool lets you follow a moving dot at your own pace. Many people find it helps them slow down, feel grounded and settle their nervous system. Press Start, follow the dot with your eyes, and stop whenever you’re ready.
Follow the dot with your eyes only — keep your head still.
How to use it
Find a quiet spot and sit at a comfortable distance from your screen. Headphones are optional if you’d like to add the soft tones.
Think of a place, memory or person that helps you feel safe and calm. Notice what you see, hear and feel in your body.
Keep your head still and follow the dot with your eyes for 20–30 seconds. Pause, take a slow breath, and notice how you feel. Repeat as you like.
This tool is for relaxation and practice. It is not a replacement for EMDR therapy with a trained clinician, and it isn’t meant for working through traumatic memories on your own.
Stop if you feel overwhelmed, dizzy or notice eye strain. If you have a history of seizures or sensitivity to moving images, check with your doctor before using it.
If you’re in crisis, call or text 9-8-8 (Suicide Crisis Helpline) or call 9-1-1.
EMDR can help with anxiety, trauma and painful memories when it’s guided by a trained therapist. I offer EMDR in person in Surrey, BC and online across Canada.
